The Sorting Disillusion
Nantes Métropole Sorting Center, Couëron, France
A visit organized by my company, intended to be a pleasant outing before the lunch break. The site manager shows us the figures bluntly: barely a quarter of the plastic we sort actually ends up being recycled, the rest goes to incineration or landfill, despite years of careful habits in my kitchen. I leave with a bit of a knot in my stomach, less out of guilt than a dull anger toward this whole narrative of individual action that we've been sold forever without ever specifying that figure.
