Denmark, an ally of Napoleon, was forced to cede **Norway** to Sweden. However, the agreement stipulated that the former Norwegian dependencies, including **Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland**, remained under the Danish crown. This is the founding act of **modern Danish sovereignty** over Greenland, a relationship that endures to this day and would be at the heart of future interests.
